New crime fiction release from L M Krier in the DI Ted Darling series is coming SOON!
I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog of late, for which my apologies but, for those who have not already heard through social media, it’s because of the recent sudden death of my brother, Peter, aged 67.
If you’ve read the Sell the Pig trilogy of four, Sell the Pig, Is That Billinge Lump?, Mother, Was It Worth It? and Biff the Useless Mention, you’ll already know that my brother had a serious problem with alcohol. He had been going steadily downhill, despite all efforts to persuade him to seek proper help. He even had two social workers, whose advice he ignored.
We continued to exchange frequent emails, in which he assured me he was getting himself together and now employing a cleaner with whose help the kitchen now looked like an operating theatre in its pristine cleanliness. Sadly, none of it was true.
I received a phone call from the police to say he had been found dead at the house, of natural causes. And when I went over to the Pink House to begin to sort things out, the full horror behind the fantasy was revealed.
But enough of the sadness. I’ve found great solace in spending time with my good friend Ted Darling and the result is that Book 5 will be released later this year. The title is, as ever, a closely guarded secret for now, but it follows on from Baby’s Got Blue Eyes, Two Little Boys, When I’m Old and Grey and Shut Up and Drive.
Once that’s released, I have a busy time ahead. The first Sell the Pig book will shortly be appearing in French translation, which is an exciting project, and will finally answer the questions the locals often ask me about why I finished up living in the middle of the rural Auvergne.
Then hopefully before too long I will be publishing my first children’s book, The Dog with the Golden Eyes, written as L M Kay, also a crime fiction. When I finally draw breath from all that, I think there will have to be another book in the Sell the Pig series, all about the challenges my brother has unwittingly left me with. A fifth book in a trilogy? Why not!
There’s a new book out in the popular DI Ted Darling crime fiction series. Book 4, Shut Up and Drive, is now available to pre-order from Amazon for Kindle, and from other online retailers for most other e-book devices. Once again the cover is by talented designer Dave Michael Rogers of DMR Creative.
This new book in the DI Ted Darling crime thriller series sees a serial sex attacker spreading fear in Stockport and DI Ted Darling and his team on the case. The man randomly targets young women and abducts them from busy supermarket car parks. He’s armed with a knife and is clearly highly trained in how to handle it.
Ever-dwindling police resources make the manhunt harder, even though the attacker clearly doesn’t care whether or not he’s caught. All his victims say he’s dead behind the eyes.
As the gripping thriller nears its climax, the dangerous predator becomes even more ruthless and his actions threaten the lives of more than one of the team members.
You will, of course, find out more about Ted and his partner Trev in this new book. There’s a brand new character, hopefully a bit of a surprise, and I hope also one the readers will like and want to see more or.
The new book is the fourth in the series which began with Baby’s Got Blue Eyes and continued with Two Little Boys and When I’m Old and Grey. Baby’s Got Blue Eyes now has a new cover for the Kindle edition and the paperback will also soon be available with the new cover.
Shut Up and Drive is already getting a few mentions on other websites and blogs. Do please spread the word among your friends. The book is available to pre-order NOW and will arrive on your Kindle on 1st March 2016 – Happy St David’s Day!
The good news is that I have just started work on the next crime fiction book. But will this one feature DI Ted Darling? That’s the Million Dollar Question!
I can’t believe it’s a year since DI Ted Darling first bounced his way into my brain and made me write about him. Since then, I’ve published three crime thriller books in the series, Baby’s Got Blue Eyes, Two Little Boys and When I’m Old and Grey.
The reception has been brilliant, very encouraging for a newbie into the crime thriller genre. It’s a huge one, full of very talented writers, both mainstream published and Indies like myself. In such a big pond, it’s always hard for a new and very small minnow to get noticed.
Crime thriller cover design
I’ve been working with the talented Dave Michael Rogers of DMR Creative for the cover designs and have been pleased with what he’s produced for each of them.
But it’s always good to shake things up a bit, to try to create a bit more attention. With that in mind, I’ve asked him to rework the cover of Baby’s Got Blue Eyes for something a bit more stark and dark, perfect for a crime thriller. This is the result of the revamp, and I’m thrilled with it. Hope it won’t give the readers nightmares!
To coincide with the revamp, and also as a lead-in to the next book coming out, Baby’s Got Blue Eyes will be going out at a special offer price, for a limited time only, starting from 30 January 2016. Watch this space for further details. You can also keep up to date with Ted and me on social media – Facebook and Twitter – for more news.
In further Ted news, the next crime thriller in the series, Ted Book IV, is on the second round of beta reading and the designer is already working on the cover, so I hope to have it available before much longer.
Next crime thriller title
You will have spotted a recurring theme with the titles, which are all song titles or lines from a song. I’m too superstitious to reveal the name of my next book before it’s ready to publish. But if you like to play the guessing game, I can give you some clues.
That’s it for clues. Good luck!
Also don’t forget my first children’s fiction book, The Dog with the Golden Eyes, will also be released shortly. It’s an adventure story about a boy and a dog, with a strong crime thriller element.
Well, I couldn’t completely abandon my favourite genre, could I?
It’s here! The moment fans of DI Ted Darling have been waiting for! Book III in the series, When I’m Old and Grey, is out today, 1 October 2015, and available at a special offer price of just £1.99/$1.99, just for the first few days.
Here’s what the book blur says: ‘DI Ted Darling doesn’t like coincidences. There are too many for comfort surrounding his latest case. They’re spilling over into his private life, too, when some toxic family secrets are uncovered.
A serial killer appears to be targeting vulnerable elderly people in care homes and despatching them in the most cynical way. Ted and his team are struggling to get a lead on who the killer really is.
It doesn’t help that his newest team member is adding to his problems, rather than helping him to solve them.
Then an unexpected phone call brings devastating news for Ted and his long-term partner, Trevor …’
The DI Ted Darling books are based in Stockport, the town where I grew up.
You can get it from Amazon for Kindle and in paperback.
And the good news in I’ve just started writing DI Ted Darling Book IV!
It’s nearly here – launch date for the second crime thriller featuring your favourite British police officer, DI Ted Darling.
‘In his darkest and most complex case to date, DI Ted Darling has to confront demons from his own past when investigating the brutal murder of a young boy.
As more deaths follow, he realises he is up against powerful people who believe themselves to be above the law, and starts to feel out of his depth.
At the same time he has to cope with a new boss, much more formal than his old one, who increasingly makes him feel he’s not up to the challenge.
It all starts to put an intolerable strain on Ted’s long-term stable relationship with his partner, Trevor.’
It features a brilliant cover by the talented DMR Creative and I hope you’re going to love it!
Somewhat belated Happy New Year to everyone. I apologise for the lack of recent posts but the reason has been a feverish spate of writing, co-writing and editing.
Just before Christmas, friends Jill Pennington, Janet Holt and I got together to meet up, write and publish a book called Take Three Birds, under the collective pen name of Jilli Lime Holt. It’s the rather crazy account of our decision to meet up in the flesh, having previously only ever ‘spoken’ via social media, e mail and text messages. It’s gone down rather well.
I’ve also been revamping the Sell the Pig series books, with smart new covers designed by DMR Creative, as well as a change of publisher for the middle one, Is That Billinge Lump. You can find details of all my books on my Amazon author page.
Cheesy as it sounds, after a dream which gave me most of the plot for a work of fiction, I have taken my first tentative steps into the world of crime writing. My first ever crime novel should be out in February 2015. As ever, I am keeping details of it under wraps until the last minute.
As it’s a detective novel, I’ll give you a clue so you can see if you can solve the mystery.
The title is a line from an Elton John song. That’s your lot.
As soon as it’s available for pre-order, I will let you have a look at the cover and synopsis and hopefully some of you will buy and read it.
